Mining Industry Experience Program

Canada’s mining industry is all about people—investing in skills, knowledge, and opportunities that shape the future. That’s why the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), in partnership with CIM, Agnico Eagle, Cameco, Newmont, Rio Tinto, and Teck are offering a unique paid industry opportunity – the MiEX program.

This two-week program is designed for post-secondary students completing their first year of STEM studies in Spring 2026. You’ll gain real-world insights through a mix of learning hubs and on-site experiences—exploring what a career in mining could look like for you. 

  • Paid two-week experience 
    Get paid while gaining practical experience within the mining industry.

    A unique blend of learning and on-site experience.
     
  • Dates and locations
    The MiEX program will take place May 4-15, 2026 in Vancouver, Saskatchewan and Montreal. 

First week

Week one is a comprehensive learning experience. You will attend a hub-based learning experience in one of three locations: Vancouver, Saskatchewan or Montreal. You will engage in structured sessions to understand and discuss industry strategies, values and behaviors and explore the intricacies of mining operations in a learning hub setting.

Second week

Week two takes you on-site for up to four days at company site locations, experiencing what life is like working in the mining industry. Learn from seasoned experts and young professionals, and witness the real-world mining value chain and modern operational practices.

Eligibility Criteria:  

  • First-year post-secondary students studying in any Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field
  • 18+ years of age
  • Proficient in English
  • Able to attend the two-week in-person program from May 4-15, 2026
  • Available for full-time work hours throughout the two-week program
  • Available to fly and stay on-site for up to four days in the second week (may include weekend travel)
  • Permanent resident or Canadian citizen

Application Process:  

  • Applications open: January 12–23, 2026  
  • Shortlisted candidates: Invited to a group screening session early February
  • Final selection: Offers sent in late February, followed by travel arrangements
